Writing Groups: Open Genre

Scripto Libris

Scripto Libris is a spin-off writers’ group from Alan Mills’ year-long novel writing course. We are highly motivated and goal focused to produce our best quality writing across a variety of genres. We aim to encourage and support each other along each of our writing journeys.

Seize the Day

A long-standing group formed in 2000, we are small in size, which allows for in-depth work on each member’s writing at each meeting. Members of this group write in different areas: historical fiction, detective fiction, short stories, poetry and memoir. We work hard to support each other as we try to bring long projects to fruition, and some of our members have achieved publishing success. Seize the Day writers include several published authors, as well as the winner of the 2019 Stella Prize and the winner of the 24th Scarlet Stiletto Short Story Award. Unfortunately we are currently not taking new members.

Stanton Library Writers’ Group

We are a dynamic group of novice writers who meet once a month to read their works and provide feedback. We launched our first anthology in 2017, Pieces of North Shore, and are looking forward to producing our second collection.

Storyism

At the Storyism group meetings, members present work from a variety of genres and writing categories including adult, YA/middle grade; short stories, novellas and novels; crime, fantasy, contemporary fiction; memoir and fictionalised memoir; poetry and song-writing; science writing; letters to the editor; speeches.
This group is ideal for anyone who is at any stage of writing (but must be currently working on something), works on or has an interest in contributing to others’ multiple works and genres, is prepared to give and receive constructive feedback (essential), and is prepared to commit to attending most meetings (at least 7/11 meetings held during the year).

Women Writers Network

We are a combination of prose writers, poets, and playwrights. All at different levels of experience and expertise. All with the desire to become better at what we do. Our group includes women who have just begun to write – those who have had plays produced – novels, memoirs or poetry published – and those striving to be published. The emphasis is on constructive feedback in a friendly, encouraging, but dedicated environment, fostering all stages and all genres of writing. We meet weekly but attendance is flexible. There are usually eight to twelve women at any sitting. If you wish to read you’ll need to limit your prose to about 1000 words and have copies for us to edit as you read. Unless there is great financial hardship, we all put in a gold coin each week. And that’s it really. You are welcome to try us for size – see if we fit.
