Whether you write reviews, recipes or just want to celebrate the delights of the palate, this course for writers has got something for everyone – with or without food writing experience.

John Newton is a World Food Media Award winning writer and food journalist. In 2012, he returns to the Centre by popular demand with his new and improved course for lovers of food.

In this UTS accredited course John will explore and discuss a range of Australian and international texts – history, journalism, recipes and writing by chefs on all aspects of food in society (taste, social implications of food and food policy and agriculture in society). Including a component of critical writing, especially as it relates to restaurant criticism, this course will cover the politics of food, the science of flavour, restaurant reviewing, writing recipes and cookbooks and where to go next. There will even be some tastings along the way!

John Newton has taught this course for five years and there have been a number of success stories among his students, some of whom have gone on to write for newspapers and journals. Examples of previous students’ work can be found online at eatourwords.com.

Food
Tea and coffee making facilities will be provided. Course participants are advised to bring their own lunch as there are no cafes within easy walking distance.
