Make this the year that you write that novel or novella you’ve yet to start or complete. This course gives you the inspiration, the camaraderie, the structure, skills and motivation to write the novel you’ve been putting off. Whether you’re beginning your writing adventure or have lots of writing under your belt, you’re welcome to attend.

Internationally published author, Bem Le Hunte, has written three novels and several short stories to great critical acclaim, and has worked across many other writing forms over the past twenty-three years as a full-time writer. She will write her next novel with the other writers in this three phase course.

Every week will be spent exploring the stories that we’ve written, the issues that have daunted us, and the challenges that we aspire to overcome. We will also hear from other seasoned writers who will help to illuminate the path we travel together and offer their support.

Act One

10 x Tuesday evenings: 7, 14, 21 & 28 February; 6,27 March; 3, 10, 17 & 24 April 2012, 6:30pm-9:30pm

Unless a writer begins with an open mind they’re likely to miss the chance to tell a tale that’s both strongly located in time and space yet universal in its appeal. Act One is about developing ideas with dramatic potential and intriguing themes. Complete beginners and developing writers are welcome. By the end of this course you’ll have a strong foundation for the story you’ve always wanted to write.

Act Two

10 x Tuesday evenings: 5, 12, 19 & 26 June; 3, 10,17,24 & 31 July; 7 August 2012, 6:30pm-9:30pm

Act Two features special guest speakers Mandy Sayer and Sue Woolfe.

Act two is where our action happens. Where we make form out of substance, drawing together the ideas, possibilities and words we’ve created throughout the first stage of this course. Enjoy the satisfaction of ripening a passion, revelling in insight and developing friendships with a cohort of committed writers as you take this purposeful journey one step further towards fulfilling that satisfying goal. This part of the course is ideal for people who have participated in Act One, or have some writing in their bottom drawer that they wish to develop into a novel.

Act Three

10 x Tuesday evenings: 11, 18 & 25 September; 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 October; 6 & 13 November 2012, 6:30pm-9:30pm

This phase of the course is all about getting ready for publication-a time for troubleshooting and improving-for getting rid of the typical ‘first novel flaws’ and creating a manuscript that lives up to the highest expectations of readers and publishers. This is our moment of reckoning. The point when everything we’ve learned so far on the writing journey is put to the test under critical eye. This phase ends with the creation of a collaborative e-book where you’ll learn all the skills you need to publish your work online. This part of the course is ideal for people who have participated in Acts One and Two, or others who have a substantial amount of writing under their belt that they’re ready to develop into a novel.

Food

Tea and coffee making facilities will be provided. Course participants are advised that there are no cafes within easy walking distance.
