2014 Poetry Masterclass

If you have had a poem or two published, or your first book released, and now want to take the next step, this is the course for you. In the first half of the workshop Mike will give his advice on what makes a poem successful and how to advance an individual writing style, as well as giving an overview of the current poetry scene in Australia and the opportunities that exist for poets. The second half of the masterclass will be more hands-on, with feedback and workshopping of poems.

Food
Tea and coffee making facilities will be provided. Course participants are advised to bring their own lunch as there are no cafes within easy walking distance.

Student Requirements
Pen and paper. Participants are asked to bring copies of a recent unpublished poem to share with Mike and the group for feedback and editing suggestions.

About the tutor
Mike Ladd
lives and writes in Adelaide. He has worked in radio for thirty years and currently produces Poetica, on ABC Radio National. Mike has published seven collections; the most recent is Karrawirra Parri: Walking the Torrens from Source to Sea from Wakefield Press.

Since the 1980s, he’s been experimenting with poetry on screen and as audio. He is a poetry mentor, a peer of the Literature assessment panel of the Australia Council, and he occasionally reviews poetry for the Sydney Morning Herald and Australian Book Review.
