Shaping the Short Story
Short stories have an intensity and precision that differentiates them from novel-length works. The Guardian recently suggested that the short story is the format of our time and, to many, its appeal is undeniable.
In this short story writing workshop with award-winning author Felicity Castagna, you’ll unpack what makes a successful short story – including plot, structure, form, character and voice – and how to hone your ideas into compelling works. You’ll learn the basics while being challenged to think about the short story form in more complex ways through writing exercises and the opportunity to discuss your own ideas.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Understand what exactly a short story is and how it differs from other forms.
- Discover how to craft memorable, contemporary short stories.
- Gain strategies for creating strong and memorable characters through the development of a unique and individual voice.
