Friday 2 November: The KYD New Critic Award. Entries are now open for the 2019 KYD New Critic Award! Now in its third year, this award will assist the vocational development of an early-career critic. Entries close 2 November.
Sunday 4 November: A Life in Poetry: Brook Emery and Ron Pretty in Conversation. Join Brook Emery to learn about the experiences which have inspired Ron Pretty’s 40 years of publishing poetry! This free event will be held from 2-3pm at the Brett Whiteley Studio, Surry Hills.

Tuesday 6 November: Speaker Series: Callan Park: Hospital for the Insane by Sarah Luke. In commemoration of the 140th anniversary of the founding of the Callan Park Lunatic Asylum, Sarah Luke will be talking about her book which explores the lives of the patients and staff of the facility.

Thursday 8 November: Sea, Stars and Swallowing the Universe: Trent Dalton Author Talk. At 6:30pm at Better Read Newtown you can join Trent Dalton as he discusses his bestselling Australian Fiction 2018 book, Boy Swallows Universe! Wednesday 21 November: The master from Marnpi: Alec O’Halloran in conversation with Stephen Gilchrist. This is the first comprehensive biography of a Pintupi person and the first book about the acclaimed Papunya Tula Artists organisation to carefully trace the relationship between one artist and the organisation’s staff over three decades. The Spineless Wonders 2019 Carmel Bird Digital Literary Award is now open for submissions. This award is for short fiction collections up to 30,000 words and includes cash prize amounts of $3000 for the winner and $1000 for two runners-up. Entries close 3 February 2019.
The Peter Porter Poetry Prize. “The Porter Prize is one of Australia’s most lucrative and respected awards for poetry.” First prize is $5000, and all entries must be original poems up to 75 lines. Entries close 3 December.
