A big congratulations to these Writers’ Centre members, who have achieved amazing successes in 2014. Many have had their first short stories or poems published, some have won writing competitions, received valuable fellowships or residencies, and others have had their first book published. They are novelists, children’s writers, poets, writers of non-fiction, memoir and more, and they serve as an inspiration to all of us to keep writing, reading and striving for our goals.

Libby Sommer whose short story ‘Tell Me About What Happened on New Year’s Eve’ will be published in Quadrant in 2014. Her story ‘It’s Pot Luck When You Move Into A Unit’ was the winning entry in the UTS Writers’ Alumni Short Form Writing Competition and will be published in the summer issue of Writers Connect.
Denis Fitzpatrick, who has published a short story, ‘Narcissus Loved Again’, with www.shortstoriesclub.com. The tale is of Narcissus’ discovery of love in Paradise. He has also published ‘Trial and Retribution’ with the Short Stories Club. The tale is a sequel to The Trial by Franz Kafka. Also, his short story, ‘Thus Encapsulated’, was published with www.shortstoriesclub.com. The tale is of a young, homeless woman’s accidental discovery of the Jar of Souls in an inner city suburb of Sydney pharmacy franchise.
Bernadette Williamson has been shortlisted for the Impress Prize for New Writers, for her short piece ‘Five Star Death’.
Belinda Landsberry whose picture book, Anzac Ted, has been published by EK Books (an imprint of Exisle) and is now out in bookstores.
Kathleen Fernandes has had her short story ‘Friend Or Foe’ published in Beyond The Rainbow November/December issue, 2014.
