First Friday Club, our monthly conversation with an industry professional, is a chance for our community to learn more about the writing and publishing industry. This May, we invited you to our online event with publisher Terri-ann White, in conversation with Ashley Kalagian Blunt, our Senior Programs Officer.
Terri-ann shared tips about how writers can best interact with publishers, based on her extensive career in publishing, including 14 years as publisher at UWA Publishing. In 2021, she is launching a new independent publishing house, Upswell, that will focus on literary fiction, poetry and narrative non-fiction.
You can watch the Zoom recording on our YouTube channel here.

At the end of 14 years as Publisher at UWA Publishing in Perth, Terri-ann White had published around 450 books: fiction, poetry, narrative non-fiction, scholarly, and art and natural science monographs. Prior to this, she founded and directed a cross-disciplinary research centre at UWA, taught literature and writing in universities, was a bookseller for 16 years, and organised festivals and literary events.
Terri-ann is also a writer of fiction and non-fiction with an interest in literature that extends boundaries of how stories are told. In 2021 she is launching Upswell Publishing, a new independent house for literary fiction, poetry and narrative non-fiction.
