It’s June! Fend off the cold by heading to a theatre performance, some book launches or a poetry event or two!

3 June: Anthony Lawrence and Simeon Kronenberg – Double Poetry Launch
Head to Gleebooks from 3.30 onwards for an exciting joint poetry launch! Anthony Lawrence will be launching Distance by Simeon Kronenberg, and David Musgrave will launch 101 Poems by Anthony Lawrence.

5 June: Word in Hand – Candy Royalle + The Freed Radicals
For this month only, tickets are limited! In an intimate and highly experimental gig, Candy Royalle performs new work whilst The Freed Radicals create a dramatic soundscape for your listening pleasure. Head to the Red Rattler Theatre from 7pm. Open mic signup is available on the night.

6 June: A Touch of Poetry – an evening with Julie Thorndyke
Westwords and Castle Hill Library present A Touch of Poetry, a free monthly poetry event. Come along to hear a conversation with poet Julie Thorndyke, a four-time winner of the Tanka Splendor competition and current editor of Eucalypt: a tanka journal. Be at Castle Hill Library at 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

7 June: Jodee Mundy – Up Close and Personal
Jodee Mundy, artistic director and performer, will be interviewed on the set of her new performance Personal by Alex Jones (actor, entrepreneur and ambassador).  Come along and ask Jodee all your questions, hear about her personal life as a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) and her take on inclusive art. This free event is Open Captioned.

8-9 June: Personal at Riverside Parramatta
Jodee Mundy’s Personal is a deeply moving solo performance exploring dis/ability and her personal insights as the only hearing person in a Deaf family. Combining performance, multimedia and live art, Personal is presented in two languages—English and Auslan. Don’t miss out on this ground-breaking experience.

9 June: High Tea with Emily Maguire
Emily Maguire will be in conversation with author Lauren Sams over scones, sweets, sandwiches and champagne. Emily has written five novels, including the psychological thriller An Isolated Incident which was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award and Stella Prize. Purchase a book in advance to get $5 off the high tea ticket!

15 June: Word Travels at TEDx Sydney 2018
TEDx Sydney 2018 has a stellar line-up of inspiring speakers and performers who will be discussing the theme ‘HumanKind’. Miles Merrill, the founder and Creative Director of Word Travels and the Australian Poetry Slam, will speak about the significance of spoken word. The 2017 Australian Poetry Slam Champion, Solli Raphael, is also performing her work.

16 June: Vicki Laveau-Harvie in Conversation with Varuna at Gleebooks Blackheath
Author and winner of the 2018 Finch Memoir Prize, Vicki Laveau-Harvie will be launching her new book, The Erratics, at Gleebooks Blackheath. Vicki will be in conversation with Carol Major, the writing consultant for Varuna: The Writer’s House. This wonderful event for aspiring memoir writers takes place at 2pm at the George Boutique Hotel.

17 June: The Outstanding LGBTIQ Short Story Competition
The 2018 competition for is launching! This is a fantastic creative writing event for the LGBTIQ community in Australia and New Zealand. Find out what the new theme will be and join the OutStanding Committee, their patron Alex Greenwich and some past winners. Be there from 4pm at the Diva Bar, Stonewall Hotel on Oxford St.

21 June: Queer Reading Group Sydney #4 – Transgender Liberation
Join Queer Reading Group Sydney for their fourth meeting at Better Read than Dead! This month, they are discussing Leslie Feinberg’s 1992 pamphlet, Transgender Liberation: A Movement Whose Time Has Come. Head over at 6pm for a great night of ideas and insights.
