For our monthly Writing On Our Calendar feature, we bring you a round-up of literary events happening in Sydney and around NSW. Check out some of the writing events and programs in 2025 this March!

1 March: March Write-In (Sydney)
Get your writing back on track with Writing NSW’s March Write-in – four hours dedicated to you and your writing.

1 – 3 March: The Literary Illustrations of Norman Lindsay (Blue Mountains)
Explore the captivating world of Norman Lindsay’s book illustrations, spanning a prolific career that shaped the visual landscapes of numerous literary works. 

3 March – 16 May: Online Feedback: Manuscript Development with Pamela Cook (Online)
Are you looking for feedback and tips to improve your work? Join this online manuscript development course to give and receive feedback on your writing from author Pamela Cook.

4 March: Seniors Festival – Author’s Platform: An Evening with Deb Oswald (Sydney)
Celebrate Seniors Festival at Ryde Library as Australian author Deb Oswald presents her epic new novel, One Hundred Years of Betty. It is the story of an ordinary extraordinary woman living through a century of massive change.

4 March: The Amber Owl by Juliet Marillier – Book Launch (Sydney)
Join award winning author Juliet Marillier for an in-store event as she launches the first book in her latest fantasy series The Amber Owl. 

4 March: Books in Bars – Criminal Minds Author Panel (Sydney)
Meet some of Syndey’s best crime authors, as they discuss their gripping novels, share the secrets behind their storytelling, and delve into the world of crime fiction. Enjoy a lively Q&A session where you can ask your burning questions, followed by a book signing to make the night truly memorable. The wonderful panel of authors on the night will be: Ali Lowe. Ber Carroll, Ashley Kalagian Blunt and Laura McCluskey.

4 March: A Morning with Author Lucy Tweed: Presenting Every Night of the Week (Sydney)
Get ready to throw out the rulebook and embrace chaos in the kitchen! This International Women’s Day, join us for an exciting talk with Instagrammer and author of Every Night of the Week, Lucy Tweed. Lucy will take you through her evolution from food stylist to author. She’ll share tips and tricks that will make cooking enjoyable and stress-free.

5 March: Writers at Stanton: Janelle McCulloch (Sydney)
Janelle McCulloch joins us with her new book that celebrates the inspired group of rose lovers who saved Britain’s favourite flower in WWII.

5 March: Book Launch – Soaring with the Sugarbird Lady (Sydney)
Join the launch of Soaring with the Sugarbird Lady, the inspirational story of Robin Miller, a pioneering nurse and pilot who flew life-saving polio vaccines to remote communities across Western Australia in the 1960s. Written by award-winning author Dianne Wolfer, this book tells the story of a woman who defied expectations to make a difference and gain her place in aviation history.

6 March: Gold: Matt Murphy in-conversation with David Hunt (Sydney)
Join Matt Murphy to celebrate the release of Gold! Matt will be in conversation with David Hunt.

6 March: An Evening with Ali Lowe (Castle Hill)
Join bestselling author Ali Lowe in conversation with Vanessa McCausland as she discusses her new book The Private Island. A gripping thriller full of scandal and secrets from the bestselling author of The Trivia Night, The Running Club and The School Run.

7 March: First Friday with Lex Hirst (Online)
Lex talks with Sophie Groom (CEO, Writing NSW) about writing, publishing, young people and where the three coincide. Lex will use her long history in publishing and working with young writers to explain how this group might approach an unknown future.

7 March: Writers at Stanton: Debra Oswald (Sydney)
Join Debra Oswald as she presents her new novel about Betty, an ordinary extraordinary woman living through a century of massive change.

8 March: SEASONS Anthology Launch (Sydney)
Launching the Romanian/Australian Anthology of poetry and prose, vol 9, SEASONS, a celebration of contemporary literature, art and music, unfolding the stories of more than forty-one writers from both countries.

8 March: Writing Crime Fiction with Candice Fox (Sydney)
Internationally bestselling author Candice Fox will deliver a one-stop-shop writing workshop aimed at writers wanting to produce commercial crime fiction.

8 March: I See You Book Launch (Sydney)
Join Nicole Logis for the I See You book launch with Chantal Coffie from The Voice. End the night with dancing with The Frocks! Tickets are free. 

8 March: Mastering the Art of Opinion Writing with Saman Shad (Sydney)
Opinion writing is a powerful way to influence, inform, and connect with readers. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to craft compelling opinion pieces that stand out in today’s crowded media landscape.

11 March: Books in Bars – Bell Woods in Conversation with Vanessa McCausland (Sydney)
Kell Woods is an Australian author living in Jervis Bay, NSW. Upon A Starlit Tide is her second historical fantasy novel, full of enchanting magic, fairytale romance, and mythical mermaids.

11 March: Women in the Arts Leadership Forum 2025 (Parramatta)
Join Western Sydney University’s Western Sydney Creative as they explore ideas and foster collaboration for a resilient and inclusive future through the lens of women in the arts in contemporary Australia.

12 March: The Theory of Everything Launch: Yumna Kassab in conversation with Sarah Malik (Sydney)
Join Yumna Kassab to celebrate the release of The Theory of Everything! Yumna will be in-conversation with Sarah Malik.

12 March: Reading Between the Lines: Suicide Club (Sydney)
This monthly event is a chance to hear an expert speak about a book they have chosen and offer a greater depth and understanding of the book. This month, the featured book for discussion is Suicide Club by Rachel Heng.

12 March: Talks at Willoughby presents Claire Van Ryn in conversation with Sandie Docker (Sydney)
Join a conversation with Sandie Docker as bestselling author Claire van Ryn discusses her new novel, Where the Birds Call Her Name.

12 March – 18 March: Online: Research for Writers with Eliza Henry-Jones (Online)
Join this online course with author Eliza Henry-Jones to develop and enrich your research for writing skills. This course is packed with practical tips, examples, activities and resources that you’ll be able to utilise and adapt for countless future projects, both fiction and otherwise.

13 March: How to Keep Your Clothes Forever: Leah Giblin in conversation (Sydney)
Join Leah Giblin to celebrate the release of How to Keep Your Clothes Forever! Leah will be in-conversation.

13 March: Diana Reid in Conversation with Madeleine Gray (Sydney)
Join Dymocks for an exclusive in-store event with acclaimed author Diana Reid, as she discusses her latest novel Signs of Damage in a captivating In Conversation session, followed by a Q&A and book signing.

13 March: Writers and Illustrators Summit (Sydney)
The CBCA NSW Team is hosting a first of its kind; a special event for writers and illustrators to network with both the CBCA and staff from the State Library. They will be discussing potential future events and connections and answering questions about the CBCA Book of the Year.

13 March: Orange City Library author talk with Nicole Alexander (Orange)
Meet author Nicole Alexander at Orange City Library to celebrate the launch of her latest book The Limestone Road which “bears all the hallmarks of a modern Australia classic”.

13 March: Seniors Festival: Sunburnt – a memoir of sun, surf and skin cancer (Newcastle)
Meet Anne Gately and purchase her book, SUNBURNT: A memoir of sun, surf and skin cancer at this special event.

14 March: Writers at Stanton: Robert Dessaix (Sydney)
Discover a witty exploration of the idiosyncrasies that make us fully human in Robert Dessaix’s new memoir, Chameleon.

15 March: Author Talk – Linda Royal at Mascot Library (Sydney)
Hear from Linda Royal as she debuts her historical novel, The Star on the Grave.

15 March: Writing Love and Sex in Fiction with Anne Gracie (Sydney)
This workshop with Anne Gracie will explore techniques for showing the development of love between characters, methods of building sexual tension, and ways of approaching the writing of scenes about sex that will fit with your own personal style and avoid clichés.

15 March: Story Design with Laurel Cohn (Sydney)
Through exercises and readings, this workshop introduces strategies to help you understand the bigger picture of your works-in-progress, to consider the types of decisions that affect your story design, and to deepen your awareness of what you are wanting to say and how to say it.

18 March: Writers at Santon: Jess Hill (Sydney)
Investigative journalist Jess Hill shares what she found about Australia’s National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children.

18 March: Midnight Release Party: Sunrise on the Reaping (Penrith)
Prepare to return to the world of the Hunger Games! Harry Hartog Penrith are thrilled to be hosting a Midnight Release for Sunrise at the Reaping at Harry Hartog Penrith, giving you a chance to be the first in Australian to get your hands on the new book. Books will be available from 12:01am on Wednesday 19 March. There will be a scavenger hunt, and everyone is encouraged to dress up. Prizes will be awarded and there will be giveaways on the night. 

20 – 23 March: Lifeline Big Book Fair (Illawarra)
Lifeline’s Big Book Fair is back, with over 90,000 pre-loved books on sale over three days. Their next event is being held at the Illawarra Sports Stadium, Berkeley.

20 March: Book Launch: Confessional Video Art and Subjectivity (Sydney)
Celebrate the launch of Jaye Early’s new publication, Confessional Video Art and Subjectivity: Private Experiences in Public Spaces (2025). This is the first book of its kind to examine the development of the confessional subject in video art and demonstrate how it can provide a vital platform for navigating the politics of self, subjectivity, and resistance in society.

20 March: In-Store Signing with Graham Norton (Sydney)

20 March: Talking Writing: Storytelling Through Music (Sydney)
Join Writing NSW this March for Talking Writing: Storytelling Through Music. Mawunyo Gbogbo (Hip Hop & Hymns), Max Easton (Paradise Estate, and The Magpie Wing), and Liam Keenan (also known as Meteor Infant), will be chatting with Writing NSW Program Manager and writer Katharine Pollock (Her Fidelity and the forthcoming Starry Eyed) about how music is so often the soundtrack to our lives.

20 March: First Name Second Name Launch: Steve MinOn in conversation with Michael Mohammed Ahmad (Sydney)
Join Steve MinOn to celebrate the release of First Name Second Name! Steve will be in-conversation with Michael Mohammed Ahmad, and Shirley Le will be opening the event.
