Dozens of Writing NSW members and other writers joined us for an engrossing and at times humorous conversation between Hayley Scrivenor, Nick Bhasin and Zaheda Ghani.

Talking Writing is our regular themed writing event, designed to explore the limits of what writing is and where it can take you.

Watch a recording of the panel here.

In our October Talking Writing event, the theme was Debut Authors, and we had the absolute treat of listening to Hayley Scrivenor (Dirt Town), Zaheda Ghani (Pomegranate & Fig) and Nick Bhasin (I Look Forward to Hearing from You) speak to Writing NSW Program Manager and emerging writer Rowena Tuziak.

Across the evening, the authors discussed the expectations and realities of first-time publication, and how their lives and careers changed since their books came out.

Dozens of Writing NSW members and other writers joined us at Garry Owen House on the evening of Wednesday 18 October 2023 for what was a warm, lively and entertaining evening. Hayley, Nick and Zaheda provided the room with insight into their experiences in the industry in an engrossing and at times humorous conversation, led by Rowena.

Guests enjoyed complimentary wine and cheese platters, and the foyer was filled with the sound of writers discussing their craft, and a few people using the opportunity to catch up with fellow writerly friends or to network with industry guests.

Following the panel, there were a number of insightful and thought-provoking questions from both the facilitator Rowena and the audience, and everyone left with helpful industry knowledge provided directly from these three talented authors, and a few with newly purchased and signed books!

“The discussion was straightforward and honest and the three panelists were respectful and supportive of each other, contributing to the conversation equally. I learnt a lot, and enjoyed the liveliness of the audience, the chance to catch up with friends, and meeting new people.” – Attendee
