3 – 5 November: Enqueer: Sydney Queer Writers Festival

4 November: Pier Pasolini’s Cinema: Poetry, Politics and Provocation
To celebrate the centenary of the birth of Italian writer, filmmaker, playwright and intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini, the Italian Cultural Institute will host a discussion on his work and legacy. Join local writers, filmmakers and academics for a round table style conversation.

8 November: Tea Topics: Those Dashing McDonagh Sisters with Mandy Sayer
Join award-winning novelist and narrative non-fiction writer Mandy Sayer as she shares her insights from her entertaining and inspiring biography of three sisters who transformed Australian cinema. This event will take place at Woollahra Library in Double Bay.

7 November – SAMAG BAM and then it hit me with Karen Brooks Hopkins
SAMAG and the Sydney Opera House present Louise Herron and Karen Brooks Hopkins, who will lead a conversation about their successes and challenges in driving a culture of change and excellence in their organisations. Karen will also introduce BAM… And Then Hit Me, her memoir of 36 years at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. 

9 November : Society of Women Writers Gala Awards Luncheon
Share in the excitement as winners of the National Writing Competition, Members Book Awards and the Alice Award are announced and celebrated. 

9 November: An evening with Shaun Tan
Acclaimed artist, writer, and filmmaker Shaun Tan appears live via video in conversation with librarian Maria Savvidis at the State Library of NSW. Shaun will discuss his body of work and the Library’s new acquisition of some of his illustrations.

10 November: Introduction to Screenwriting: Dialogue
The third and final workshop of the free Introduction to Screenwriting series at the Whitlam Library in Cabramatta. This workshop focuses on writing engaging dialogue that brings characters to life.

10 November: Heather Rose in conversation with Kate Evans
Join Heather Rose in conversation with ABC Radio National’s The Bookshelf co-presenter, Kate Evans, as they discuss Heather’s memoir at the Royal Oak in Balmain.

12 November: Young Creative Series: The Art of Storytelling with Playback Theater
Jo Winchester and Majella O’Shea from Playback Theatre lead a fun, inspiring, educational and playful workshop using the power of play and improvisation to tell your own story.

12 November – 18 December: The Jungle and the Sea
This Belvoir Street Theatre production combines two great pillars of literature – the Mahābhāratha and Antigone – with the untold histories of the Sri Lankan civil war to forge a new story about surviving loss, discovering love and building a path to justice.

12 November: Discover ‘Imagine’ with Sarah Morley
Take a tour of the galleries at the State Library of NSW with curator Sarah Morley and learn about the current exhibition Imagine… the wonder of picture books.

15 November: Day of the Imprisoned Writer: Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert
To mark the 2022 Day of the Imprisoned Writer, Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert discusses her memoir The Uncaged Sky: My 804 Days in an Iranian Prison at the State Library of NSW. Kylie will draw on her own story to highlight the impact of public advocacy and campaigning on securing justice.

Join Tom Keneally at Stanton Library in North Sydney to discuss his book Fanatic Heart, a retelling of the life and exploits of Irish patriot John Mitchel.

21 November – 17 December: The Tempest
Richard Roxburgh returns to the Sydney Theatre Company stage to play one of Shakespeare’s greatest roles. This production is directed by STC artistic director Kip Williams.

23 November: Workshop: Managing Complex Research for Writers
In this two hour workshop at Wollongong City Library, writer Elizabeth Walton shares her workflow and management strategies in an essential masterclass for writers of all genres and levels.

23 November: Speaker Series: Missing, Presumed Dead with Mark Tedeschi KC
Former Crown Prosecutor Mark Tedeschi KC discusses the double murder case that gripped Australia. Mark’s book Missing, Presumed Dead explores the intricacies of the disappearance of Dorothy Davis and Kerry Whelan.

24 November: The B List with Michelle Cahill
As part of the B List at the State Library of New South Wales, each month Bri Lee appears in conversation with a contemporary author. This month Bri speaks with award-winning writer and poet Michelle Cahill about her novel, Daisy and Woolf.
