Event Recap / First Friday Club with Rosemarie Milsom

Rosemarie discussed the challenges around running a regional writers festival, how festivals can contribute to a writer’s career, and the future of festivals in light of the global pandemic.

First Friday Club, our monthly conversation with an industry professional, is a chance for our community to learn more about the writing and publishing industry. In June 2021, we invited audiences to our online event with Rosemarie Milsom.

Writing NSW CEO Jane McCredie was joined by Rosemarie, who discussed the challenges around running a regional writers festival, how festivals can contribute to a writer’s career, and the future of festivals in light of the global pandemic.

Rosemarie Milsom is the founding director of the Newcastle Writers Festival, which is in its ninth year. The festival was one of the first large-scale arts events to cancel in 2020 due to COVID-19, and one of the first to make the move to a digital program. Rosemarie is also an award-winning journalist who has worked mainly with Fairfax Media in Sydney and Newcastle, as well as ABC Newcastle.
