On Friday 9 May 2025, HarperCollins was in residence at Writing NSW to explain the publishing process, as well as providing invaluable industry feedback on writers’ submissions.

Over 35 Writing NSW members joined us on a bright and sunny Friday morning. They were guided through four panels discussing the editorial process, marketing and publicity, and more. There was an opportunity for participants to ask experts from HarperCollins their own questions during a Q&A discussion. The team from HarperCollins were generous with their knowledge, providing many helpful insights into the Australian publishing industry.

In the afternoon, participants met one-on-one with a preselected publisher to receive feedback on an excerpt from their manuscripts. This rare opportunity to receive personalised feedback from experienced publishers was a highlight of the event. Many commented on the quality of advice given, and left with invigorated direction for the future of their manuscript.

We are thankful to the team at HarperCollins for their expertise and time. We’re excited to see how the talented writers who attended apply the valuable feedback they received, and we look forward to following their progress as they continue on their writing journeys.
