Lex Hirst

Lex is a commissioning editor for Penguin Random House Australia, a festival director and arts programmer driven by a love of great writing. Her remit is to build a list of new, exciting voices in both fiction and non-fiction and she’s particularly interested in stories about identity. She draws most of her inspiration from engaging with the Australian writing and publishing scenes, but is also interested in international voices that will connect with Australian readers.

She is a committee member on the Sydney Arts Management Advisory Group, representing literature alongside directors and managers from peak Australian arts organisations. In 2014–15 Lex co-directed the National Young Writers’ Festival, Australia’s biggest gathering of writers aged 18–35, as part of the TINA Festival in Newcastle.
