Boundless 2023: Writers of Colour Write Nature
Saturday 2 December, 12.30pm doors open for 1pm start
Writers of Colour Write Nature
Do you have to be an authority on nature to write about it? What are the intersections of nature writing with race, colonialism and the immigrant experience?
Women writers of colour Zohra Aly, Kavita Bedford and Uthpala Gunethilake converse with academic Sujatha Fernandes to discuss their essays on nature, which were published in Island’s Nature Writing Project, and reflect on what it means to carve out a space for themselves in the predominantly white, male-dominated landscape of nature writing.
At Bankstown Arts Centre on Saturday 2 December, 12.30pm for 1pm start.
This Boundless Festival 2023 event is run by Writing NSW, in partnership with Bankstown Arts Centre.
Writers of Colour Write Nature is curated by Zohra Aly, one of our emerging curators for this year’s Boundless festival. Read about our 2023 curators.
The Boundless program gives emerging literary curators from First Nations or culturally diverse backgrounds the experience of programming an individual event in our 2023 event series. The festival will bring together established writers and emerging voices, giving space to writing in many forms.
