Writing NSW acknowledges all the First Nations people of what is now the state of NSW and pays respects to their elders and storytellers, past, present and emerging.
Writing NSW is the state’s premier organisation for writers and writing. We support thousands of writers each year through courses, events, prizes and fellowships, opportunities to network with industry, and information and advocacy.
Our key goals are to:
- Support NSW writers and help them build sustainable careers in the constantly changing writing and publishing environment
- Foster a vibrant and diverse writing culture in NSW through collaboration with other organisations and support for a wide range of writers and their stories
Writing NSW is committed to representing and supporting the full diversity of the writing community across its programs.
Formerly known as the NSW Writers’ Centre, Writing NSW was established as an incorporated association in May 1991 to promote writing culture and the rights and interests of writers. A not-for-profit organisation, it is supported by government grants, private philanthropy, membership fees and revenue generated by its programs.
The organisation’s headquarters are in historic Garry Owen House in Callan Park, Lilyfield. Callan Park is managed by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage.
