You’ve written your work and now you’re being asked to read it out loud – or you hope to soon. Any public reading is a promotional moment that can convert a listener, if you read and speak well. You can prepare yourself to make the most of these moments.
Learn to face an audience with confidence and read your work to captivate listeners. Performer and writer George Catsi will introduce performance techniques to help you find your voice and better prepare yourself for public speaking. You’ll receive individual feedback in a group context to help you better develop your skills.
This is an active day: part public speaking, part theatre, with speakers at all levels and any genre able to explore their voices.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Participants will learn to prepare themselves for public speaking and speak with greater confidence.
- Participants will feel more comfortable in their own skin as opposed to a preconceived public speaking persona.
- Participants will be able to read to a range of audiences with increased connection.
- Participants will learn how to adapt their style depending on the room.
Participant Requirements
Bring a sample of your writing (between 4 and 8 pages) for use in a class exercise. Active participation in the exercises and reading of own work is essential. Choose the pieces you would read out if you were invited to read your work.
