Event:
First Friday Club with Catherine Milne
Friday 6 July 2018, 10-11:30am
Our next First Friday Club meeting falls on Friday 6 July and features Catherine Milne, Head of Fiction at HarperCollins. Catherine has worked in publishing for many years, including with Penguin Books, Allen & Unwin, and since 2012, with HarperCollins. She has an eclectic list, which includes literary fiction, crossover/bookclub fiction and narrative non-fiction. Recent standouts include Julia Baird’s bestselling Victoria; Stan Grant’s Talking to My Country; the internationally acclaimed The Anchoress, by Robyn Cadwallader; Holly Ringland’s bestselling The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart and Trent Dalton’s Boy Swallows Universe.
Her rule of thumb in publishing is that a story has got to make her feel something – she wants to feel passionately invested in every book she publishes. It’s all about heart and soul, meaning and joy.
Project & Communications Officer Aurora Scott will chat to Catherine about her work, career journey, and everything in between.
About First Friday Club
First Friday Club is a monthly event at Writing NSW, free and exclusive to members. The club takes place on the first Friday of every month (March-October) from 10am-11:30am. Each month a new guest speaker from the writing industry, be they author, editor, publisher or journalist, joins us for a group conversation about writing. This session is then followed by a delicious morning tea.
