FAQs: The Pitch Sessions

I’m not a member of Writing NSW. Can I apply?

No, this opportunity is exclusive to Writing NSW members.

You can become a member via our website. Membership includes discounted courses, access to writing groups and our writers’ spaces at our building in Callan Park, competition entry and more.

If you need to join or renew your membership, please do so before expressions of interest open as membership must be active at the time of application.

Why do I have to submit an expression of interest?

Due to high demand, places are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible applicants. Submitting an EOI allows us to allocate places fairly in the order received.

Please note that an EOI does not guarantee a place.

When do expressions of interest open?

Expressions of interest open at 11am (AET) on Tuesday 7 April.

When will I hear if I’ve been successful?

We aim to respond within 24-48 hours of your submission. If your application is successful, you will receive an email with your session time and payment details.

What happens if I’m offered a place?

You will be directed to pay a $45 fee for your pitching session, which must be paid within 48 hours to secure your booking. If payment is not received within this timeframe, your place will be offered to another writer. Your booking is only confirmed once we have received your payment.

Can I choose my agent or session time?

No. Participants are allocated an agent based on their manuscript’s genre and agent availability, and session times are assigned in advance.

Do I need to submit any materials in advance?

No written material is required. You will present your pitch verbally during the session.

Will I receive feedback?

No. This is a pitching opportunity rather than a feedback session.

What do I need for the session?

All pitches will take place online. You will need:

  • A stable internet connection
  • A device with Zoom installed
  • A quiet space where you can speak and hear clearly

What if I have technical difficulties?

If you experience issues, try leaving and rejoining the session using your Zoom link. Turning off your video can also help if your connection is unstable.

What happens if I can’t attend?

Unfortunately, we are unable to reschedule sessions. Bookings are not eligible for refund or credit.

If I’m successful in securing a pitch session, how should I prepare?

A strong pitch is clear, concise and engaging. You’ll only have 5 minutes, so preparation is key.

Here are a few steps to follow to ensure your pitch is up to scratch.
