First Friday, our monthly conversation with an industry professional, is a chance for our community to learn more about the writing and publishing industry.

This September, we invite you to our online event with Angelo Loukakis, publisher, editor, author and founding Chair of Writing NSW.

Angelo will join us to share insights and stories about writing and publishing from his unique perspective, having worked across the industry.

This event starts online at 12:30pm, via Zoom, and will run for 60 minutes. If there is time, we will take audience questions at the end. Free and open to members and non-members, but RSVPs are essential.

Angelo Loukakis has been a writer, teacher, scriptwriter, editor and publisher. He is the author of the fiction titles Vernacular Dreams (UQP, 1986), Messenger (Penguin, 1992), The Memory of Tides (HarperCollins, 2006) and Houdini’s Flight (HarperCollins, 2010). He has also written a number of non-fiction works, including a book for children, The Greeks (Hodder and Stoughton, 1981), and a book of the SBS television series, Who Do You Think You Are? (Pan Macmillan, 2008). His collection of short stories, For the Patriarch (UQP, 1981), was winner of a New South Wales Premier’s Literary Award and was studied on the NSW HSC syllabus for over 15 years. Angelo wrote the the 1980 film Dancing as well as the SBS television series The Girl from Steel City (1987-88). He served on the Literature Board of the Australia Council (now Creative Australia) from 1985-87, was founding Chair of the NSW Writers’ Centre (now Writing NSW) and Executive Director of the Australian Society of Authors (2010-16).
