Event: First Friday
First Friday with Huyen Hac Helen Tran
Friday 6 March, 12.30pm
First Friday, our monthly conversation with an industry professional, is a chance for our community to learn more about the writing and publishing industry. This March, we invite you to our online event with Huyen Hac Helen Tran, mentor for Writing NSW’s Cultivate Mentorship for Emerging Diverse Writers.
Navigating complex issues of culture, identity, and history are difficult enough. When you are an emerging writer from a culturally diverse background these can seem overwhelming. You share common histories and experiences with different communities whose collective history is short, but whose individual histories go back thousands of years. Telling these stories can be hard, especially if voices are diminished or ignored. Join Helen as she shares her experiences as a writer from an Australian-Vietnamese background and learn how the Cultivate Mentorship Program for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Emerging Writers from Writing NSW can help diverse writers both find their voice and an outlet.
This event starts online at 12:30pm, via Zoom, and will run for 60 minutes. If there is time, we will take audience questions at the end. First Friday events are free and open to members and non-members, but RSVPs are essential. You can also submit a question for Helen in the ‘Additional Information – Order Notes’ section at Checkout.
If you have additional access needs please contact us at info@writingnsw.org.au or 02 9555 9757.
