First Friday is our monthly conversation with an industry professional which gives our community a chance to learn more about the writing and publishing industry.

Join us in conversation with Justine Dixon Cooper, a director from the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd), and explore the way in which writers and editors intersect as works near publication. What can a writer expect from a good editor, and what should an editor expect from a good writer? What is the ideal relationship between the editor and writer and how does one find that? Join us for a broad discussion about the role editing plays in the life of a published work.

This event starts online at 12:30pm, via Zoom, and will run for 60 minutes. If there is time, we will take audience questions at the end. This event is free and open to members and non-members, but RSVPs are essential. You can also submit a question for Justine in the ‘Additional Information – Order Notes’ section at Checkout.

Justine Dixon Cooper AE spent the first years of her editing career in London, where she learnt the pitfalls of prescriptivism – and the unexpected truth about traditional UK English spelling. Since that heady time, 15 years ago, she has specialised in nonfiction and plain English editing in Australia. Justine now runs Goldfinch Editing Services and serves as the NSW director for the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd). Her editing mantra is simple: clarity, consistency, creativity, connection.
