This writing course, Voice in Contemporary Playwriting with Michelle Law, takes place at Writing NSW in Sydney.
Some of the most exciting contemporary theatre works are written by new playwrights whose voices are original, authentic and previously unheard. How did they develop their style, create evocative worlds, and form characters whose wants and conflicts are compelling?
In this course we will read and critique the work of contemporary playwrights from historically excluded backgrounds. We will focus on the themes and central questions of their plays, discuss what makes their voices original, and gain a deeper understanding of the playwright and the cultural contexts in which they write.
In this interactive course, award-winning playwright and author Michelle Law will guide you through contemporary theatre works with practical exercises in text analysis and dialogue, helping you find and develop your own unique voice as a playwright.
