Event Recap / Catch up on Kids & YA Festival 2022

Did you miss out on attending the Kids & YA Festival? Take a look at some of the images from the day and listen to some of the recordings!

The Kids & YA Festival was held on Saturday 25 June, 2022 at Writing NSW, Callan Park. Directed by award-winning, internationally published children’s author Belinda Murrell, this year’s Festival showcased some of Australia’s best-known and dearly loved authors, illustrators, publishers, media personnel and industry professionals, many of whom have achieved international success.

Thank you to everyone—attendees, speakers and staff—who came along to the festival. It was a beautiful day and a wonderful opportunity to gather once again as a community after so long. The team at Writing NSW hopes the event left those who attended inspired and motivated.

Congratulations to Annika Herb, winner of the Kids & Young Adult Novel Pitching Session and Claire Hampson, winner of the Picture Book Pitching Session. Both Annika and Claire won a year long membership to Writing NSW and Creative Kids Tales, as well as a generous book pack.

If you weren’t able to make it on the day, we have recordings available for Writing with Passion, a conversation between Deb Abela and Belinda Murrell. Deb spoke about the highs and lows of her career, her passions, being part of a writing community, and more. Listen here.

We also recorded Building Career Longevity: Publicity, social media, marketing and resilience, with Dot Tonkin, Paul Macdonald, Mick Elliott and Belinda Murrell. The highly successful professionals discussed the business of publishing, including creating dynamic author platforms, social media, dealing with publishers and booksellers, advances and more.
