Talking Writing is our regular themed writing event where we discuss the infinite possibilities of writing.
In our first Talking Writing event of the year, the theme was Storytelling Through Music, and Mawunyo Gbogbo (Hip Hop & Hymns), Max Easton (Paradise Estate, and The Magpie Wing), and Liam Keenan (also known as Meteor Infant) chatted with Writing NSW Program Manager and writer Katharine Pollock (Her Fidelity and the forthcoming Starry Eyed).
Throughout the evening, we discussed how music shapes the stories we tell. We spoke about music’s capacity to change us and challenge us, and how the music we enjoy, or the songs we create, can be deeply personal. Liam Keenan even played a tune for us!
Before and after the panel, writers and music lovers alike enjoyed drinks and nibbles while chatting about the important role music has in our lives. Everyone seemed to leave with a renewed passion for listening closely to the stories embedded in songs.
