This writing poetics of place course with Jazz Money, Poetics of Place: Writing new poetry wherever you are, will be held at Writing NSW in Sydney.
Our lives are a concert of everything we have heard, seen, eaten, felt, danced, sung and yearned for, of every place we have stepped foot and every person we have encountered. These experiences form the infinite wellspring of poetics, of which we are all individual conduits.
In this poetry workshop, Jazz Money takes you on a guided journey through reading, writing and listening to create new poetry based in place and memory. With writing prompts from a variety of contemporary poets informing the structure of the workshop, Jazz will teach you that poems inhabit our memories and we all have the ability to coax them out.
The workshop will be built around:
- Understanding the poetics of place
- How to use place memory in poetry
- Constructing and creating words that mark time
- Different ways to overcome writer’s block
- Writing as play without rules or judgement
