This grammatical writing course with Susan McKerihan takes place at Writing NSW in Sydney.

Sentences! They are the basic, foundational level of writing – so it’s important to make sure they don’t become bloated, vague or simply difficult to understand. There are several ways this can happen. This course will look at the most common problem areas, grouped under three themes, and offer suggestions for how you can aim for clear, powerful sentences.

Is this course right for you? Read our FAQ >

The three key tips Susan McKerihan will share in this workshop are presented through a mix of explanations, examples and written exercises. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and challenge the ideas, to help them understand and become comfortable with a streamlined style.

Participants may bring a page of their own writing if they wish, to self-assess during the day with guidance and ideas from the tutor.

Expected learning outcomes

Participants will gain:

  1. An understanding of how sentences can become clunky or confusing.
  2. A greater insight into your personal writing style.
  3. The tools to streamline and clarify any problem areas in your own (or others’) sentences.

Participant requirements

Pen and paper; or fully charged device. Bring along some of your own writing to self-assess and practice on if you like. Please read our FAQ before enrolling.
