This writing course, Writing Visually for Comics and Graphic Novels with Christof Bogacs, will be held at Writing NSW in Sydney.

The ability to generate attention grabbing visual ideas is a critical part of all great writing. But how do you communicate complex visual ideas when you yourself are not a visual artist? And how can you succinctly articulate these ideas to collaborators? Well, it turns out these skills can be learned by understanding how to write and tell stories through comics and graphic novels.

Designed for business and creative professionals interested in writing visually, this course will give you all the tools and knowledge required to express complex visual ideas directly and succinctly through a comic script.

Please note that you do not need to be a visual artist to attend this course!

Expected learning outcomes

Participants will:

1. Learn how to generate ideas that work visually
2. Gain a basic understanding of what information you, as a writer, need to convey to illustrators, designers and other visual artists you’re working with
3. Gain an understanding of the tools available to the visual writer and their limitations
4. Learn to write comic scripts in the full script format and to condense complex visual ideas into a few sentences.

Participant requirements

• Bring your own pen and paper or fully charged device.
• You do not need to be a visual artist to attend this course!
