This writing course, Poetry in Flux: Playing with Genre and Form with Hasib Hourani, will be held at Writing NSW in Sydney.
Contemporary poetry takes on endless forms and modes: from a journalistic account to speculative futurism to a simple ode. With a form this expansive, it can be difficult to find your voice or know where to start.
In this interactive workshop, poet Hasib Hourani will guide participants through different poetic modes of language to consider all that poetry can be, and how we might find inspiration in the unexpected.
With a combination of reading, writing, listening and discussing, participants will spend the day learning about genre-blending contemporary poetry and its exciting possibilities!
Expected learning outcomes
In this workshop, participants will:
- Review foundational approaches of crafting poetry
- Explore alternative forms and interests into poetry to blend genre
- Find inspiration in unexpected places to help tackle writer’s block.
Participant requirements
Pen and paper, and/or a fully charged device.
