Writing Groups: Historical Fiction
Back to all writing groupsHistory Never Repeats
No Boundaries
Whatever genre we write in, we can learn from stepping outside our safe zone. If you think that a fantasy writer can learn from a historical fiction author, or a long form journalist has something to offer a romance novelist, this might be your group. No Boundaries is open to writers of fiction and creative nonfiction who are looking for an environment where constructive criticism is exchanged with good heart, occasional humour and a willingness to be surprised.
While some writing experience is preferred, highly motivated beginners may be accepted. It is assumed that members are aiming for publication in some form, whether that be traditional book publishing, blogging, magazine articles, self-publishing, Substack, Medium, or any of the myriad ways we get our work to the outside world.
Seize the Day
We are a friendly group whose members conscientiously and constructively critique each other’s writing. Founding member, Rowena Harding-Smith, has won the Sisters In Crime Scarlet Stiletto Award (2018). Ian McArthur was shortlisted for the Varuna Publisher Introduction Program Fellowship (2019), and Gillian Rubinstein is author of more than 30 books, including the Tales of the Otori series under the pseudonym of Lian Hearn. Our purpose is to assist all members to achieve their writing goals through constructive criticism and social support.
Young Writers Group
We are a group of writers in our twenties working towards publication and developing writing careers. Members can bring writing of any genre and form. We meet once a month in person and via Zoom. We offer a supportive and encouraging atmosphere for young writers to workshop their pieces and hone their craft.
