This creative writing course about writing complicated characters with Maame Blue takes place at Writing NSW in Sydney.

During this one-day workshop, Maame Blue – author of the award-winning novel Bad Love – will take you through close readings of contemporary fiction, film recommendations and literary discussion, as well as useful writing exercises to kick start the creation of your own complicated characters.

Expected learning outcomes

Participants will:

  1. Gain an understanding of building character self-perception.
  2. Experiment with flipping narrative perspective to add complexity.
  3. Learn how to utilise context to add to character creations.
  4. Have an opportunity to create brand new work featuring complicated characters.

Participant requirements

Pen and paper; or fully charged device. There will be some pre-readings of course materials emailed to you before the course begins.
