First Friday, our monthly conversation with an industry professional, is a chance for our community to learn more about the writing and publishing industry. This June, we invite you to our online event with Fiona Hazard, group publishing director for Hachette Australia and New Zealand and co-founder of the Richell Prize.

Join us for this insightful conversation as Fiona shares her knowledge and experience garnered from over 25 years in publishing. With the 2023 Richell Prize currently open for applications, you’ll also learn more about this important literary prize that guides new talent towards publication.

This event starts online at 12:30pm, via Zoom, and will run for 60 minutes. If there is time, we will take audience questions at the end. Free and open to members and non-members, but RSVPs are essential.

FIONA HAZARD, GROUP PUBLISHING DIRECTOR FOR HACHETTE AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

Fiona Hazard is Group Publishing Director for Hachette Australia and New Zealand and has over 25 years’ publishing experience gained both here and in the UK. As well as overseeing Hachette’s ANZ publishing programs she also publishes her own list of fiction and non-fiction including bestselling and award-winning authors such as Geraldine Brooks and Dr Michael Mosley.

Fiona leads Hachette’s partnerships with the State Library of Queensland’s black&write! program and the Emerging Writers Festival; was a co-founder of Hachette’s annual literary prize for emerging and unpublished writers, The Richell Prize; and sits as the Trade Publisher representative on the Australian Inclusive Publishing Initiative (AIPA), a cross-industry body established to increase access for readers with print disabilities. She is also the Board sponsor for Hachette’s ‘Changing the Story’ employee network, THRIVE, which aims to build cultural awareness, bring people together and champion colleagues and writers from underrepresented backgrounds.
